Looking for a new BBQ spot?
Check out Hickory Sticks in Fort Lauderdale, FL for all the BBQ goodness. The meats are freshly smoked right outside and I recommend going there hungry because there are so many options to choose from. I was invited by fellow foodies, @Soflofooodie to check out the menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. There was a private parking lot which I find very convenient. The restaurant had a laid back vibe with a kitschy, retro, and country decor.
Disclaimer: The meals and drinks were complimentary, however, my opinions expressed in this blog post are truthful to my experience.
We started off with loaded fries.
OMG, those fries were to die for. These fries were topped with cheese, bacon, and sour cream. I’d have to say, this was like heaven in my mouth. Next up, the jalapeno poppers with sweet sauce to dip in. The jalapeno poppers were different from what I’m used to, these were jalapenos stuffed with shredded pork, cheese, smoked sausage, covered with batter, and then fried. The only thing missing in this dish was the cream cheese, it needed that to balance out the flavor and texture in my opinion.
I should’ve listened to my heart and ordered those ribs or the Cuban sandwich.
Their Cuban sandwich won first place in the Miami Cuban Sandwich Smackdown! (which was a Cuban sandwich contest). Oh, don’t forget to check out the loaded baked potato, a fellow blogger ordered that and I really regretted not getting it. The potato was loaded with cheese, scallions, and bacon; it looked amazing. I’m planning on trying those meals the next time I go.
I opted for the brisket, mac & cheese, and baked beans.
The brisket was smoked for hours, the flavor was really good, I just found it to be a little dry but overall it was good. I wanted to like the mac & cheese and baked beans, but the mac & cheese needed a little bit more cheese because it was kind of dry; the baked beans were a little too soupy and flavorless. But don’t fret, there were so many other tasty options for sides.
Overall, the food was solid and I’m looking forward to going back to check out the other items on the menu. Hickory Sticks is surely up there with one of my favorite BBQ joints in Broward County. I recommend checking them out if you’re in the area and craving barbeque.
